WICKENBURG, AZ -
For more than 40 years, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band has entertained fans of country, rock and folk music with a stream of unforgettable hits and albums. February 12 and 13 they will kick off Wickenburgs 61st annual Gold Rush Days celebration with an acoustic concert at the Del E. Webb Center for the Performing Arts.
They topped the chart with singles including “Mr. Bojangles” and “Fishin’ in the Dark” and made history with their breakthrough album “Will the Circle Be Unbroken.” In the spring of 2002, Capitol Records released the 30th Anniversary Edition of the landmark album, which was followed several months later by “Will the Circle Be Unbroken Vol. III.” That collection garnered multiple Grammy nominations and a CMA nomination for Vocal Event with Johnny Cash.
In 2005, the band won a Grammy for Best Country Instrumental for "Earls Breakdown." The song features Earl Scruggs, Randy Scruggs, Jerry Douglas and the late Vassar Clements. Last year, the band was honored by inclusion in the fourth class of inductees to the Music City Walk of Fame presented by founding sponsor Gibson Guitar. Along with Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, other inductees were Steven Curtis Chapman, Merle Kilgore, Steve Wariner, Kirk Whalum and Hank Williams.
Nitty Gritty has earned five Grammy Awards and multiple platinum records, influencing everyone from The Byrds to Rascal Flatts. Their latest album, “Welcome to Woody Creek,” features a mix of new songs and covers of The Beatles and Gram Parson.
