WICKENBURG, AZ -
After living and rehearsing at the Flying E Guest Ranch for two weeks, working in classrooms at Wickenburg High and Vulture Peak Middle School, The American Place Theatre is ready for a public performance of their new work; The Living Library at the Webb Center Thursday, January 28, 7:30 PM.
The 48 year old off-Broadway theatre company will perform selections from nine American classics including Hemingways “The Old Man and the Sea,” Steinbecks “The Grapes of Wrath,” and “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee to name a few. The performance on Thursday is the only time these works will be presented as a collection; giving the audience insight into the work destined for classrooms across the country.
A limited audience of about 85 patrons will be seated comfortably on the stage with the performers giving them a greater appreciation for the nuances and significances of each literary work.
APT produces a series of works for student and adult engagement known as “Literature to Life” where actors perform staged adaptations of significant American literary works to encourage reading, writing and critical thinking.
The residency project is funded by the Wellik Foundation and the Arizona Community Foundation; the work is curated by the Webb Center.
While living at the Flying E, the company comprised of 20 actors, directors and teaching artists from New York have taken time to enjoy the outdoor recreation which makes this region glorious; running, hiking Vulture Peak, horseback riding as often as possible and experiencing the thrill of all terrain vehicles.
Tickets to the public performance are available through the Webb Center Box Office. Check the Webb Centers web site for a full list of the titles included in the performance; delewebbcenter.org.
